Shadale Johnson from The Voice Season 21

Her audition: Shadale (Johnson), 29, of Douglasville, Ga., performed “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars. Her high-energy performance prompted a quick chair turn from Kelly Clarkson. John Legend soon followed. They were the only coaches with slots still left on their teams. John predicted Shadale could make it to the finale. Shadale decided to join Team Legend.

Here’s more about Shadale:

* She started singing in church at just 4 uears old and participated in choir and musical theater throughout school.

* At age 21, she joined a group called the Gospel People and that gave her a chance to tour the world. Among the countries the group visited: Russia, Malaysia and Singapore. “We performed everywhere,” Shadale told The Voice.

* “Touring taught me the importance of honing in on my craft and being quick on my feet,” Shadale told Voice Views. “There were times we had to learn songs 24 hours before a performance, which was a heavy task and a lot of pressure but I had to pocket those fears in order to give a good show.”

* Shadale performed with the Gospel People for seven years before COVID put a halt to that type of touring.

* But stepping away has given the single mom more time to spend with her daughter. She works with a delivery service during the week and performs with an event band on weekend.

* The event band is Big City Rhythm. “Our genre ranges from funk, rock, pop, country and from oldies to music of today,” Shadale said.

* Growing up, she said her musical influences included Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Selena. Her current musical inspirations include Bruno Mars, John Mayer, Billie Eillish.

* “I would describe myself as an energetic performing artist,” she told Voice Views. “I’m going to work my butt off to make sure that I give you a show. I don’t like to limit myself and I am ready to try new sounds while experiencing new genres that push me to outer limits. I would love to release Lofi/chill, pop/soul style music.”
