Here’s more about Tate:
* Tate told Voice Views he started playing piano around the age of 2 or 3. “I would climb up on a chair and listen to Coldplay and U2 songs on our CD changer, then go back to the bench and figure them out on the piano.”
* He said he started playing guitar around age 7 and singing naturally followed. “I’ve loved music for all of my life,” he said.
* And, in spite of his young age, he’s already released music, to the tune of four singles in 2019: “No Goodbye,” “Tell Me,” “It’s Always You” and “Broken.”
* Says Tate: “I would describe my original music as real and pure. Everything I create is uniquely done all on my own, in my room, and I believe you can hear my passion and creativity when listening. My goal is to write lyrics that people can feel and connect with.”
* Tate says he’s written about 30 songs and has another four or five “that are radio ready. Writing and producing is a constant in my daily life as I am always working and thinking of new song ideas. Producing songs allows me to harness my creativity and I love sharing my songs with listeners.”
* Of the four singles he’s released so far, he says he’s proudest of “Broken.” “I think it’s the best representation of me as an artist,” he says. “It came together naturally, and whenever I listen to it, I feel proud and accomplished. I began with the chords on the piano and a guitar riff, and after that the lyrics all came together!” You can check out the Spotify snippet below. The link takes you to the song on Apple Music.
* Tate lists John Mayer and the pop group LANY as musicial inspirations, but says he listens to lots of different music and pulls ideas from lots of genres.
* He’s had some noteable performances prior to The Voice, including playing six shows at the Sundance Film Festival and a sold-out show at Kirby Court in Salt Lake when he opened for three other bands.
* His Voice bio refers to a vocal chord injury suffered when he was young. Tate explains that he damaged his vocal chords “by yelling as I tried to keep up with my two older sisters. The sound of my voice has been raspy ever since I can remember. The doctors recommended not having surgery to repair the damage and I am glad my parents made that decision because it makes me sound unique, especially for my age.”
