His audition: Todd Tilghman, 41, of Meridian, Mississippi, performed “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger. His gruff vocals prompted three quick chairs turns before he even hit the chorus. And he had a four-chair turn before he was midway through the performance. John complimented the joy and spirit Todd showed on stage. Kelly loved his rasp. Blake praised his voice, his passion and his “holy hop” because Todd was bouncing up and down with joy when he finished singing. Todd opted to join Team Blake.

Here’s more about Todd.

* Todd is a pastor, not a professional singer, and says he started singing when he was 8 years old. “So all these years, I’ve just done it for the love of it mostly.”

* He’s been involved in the ministry at Cornerstone Church in Meridian since 1996. He was youth pastor, associate pastor and is now lead pastor.

* Todd says he’s done most of his singing in church, explaining that he’s “pretty much always led worship” at Cornerstone Church and also at some church conferences and youth events.

* In terms of secular music, he said he loves 1990s country and southern rock and is big fan of Bob Seger, Billy Vera and the Allman Brothers.

* He’s dabbled with the idea of a televised talent show in the past. In 2011, he competed in a local FOX30 competition for a chance to audition for The X Factor, singing “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” He also attended an open call for America’s Got Talent at one time.

* He’s been married to his wife Brooke for 21 years and they have eight children together, ranging from age 4 to 20. As we heard on the show, two of those children are adopted.

* His oldest son, Eagan, was featured on the NBC show “Making It” back in December. Bullied in high school, Eagan eventually dropped out, but has excelled as an artist. Todd said the show opened lots of leads for Eagan.

* Their appearances on the two shows “are completely unrelated,” Todd said.

* As for The Voice, a close friend organized a viewing party for Todd’s appearance on the show at the historic Temple Theater in Meridian. “The viewing party was unbelievable,” Todd said. “So many people I love showed up in support. It was very humbling.”
