His audition: Zach Day, 26, of Stearns, Kentucky, auditioned with “Weak” by by SVW. He enticed an early chair turn from John Legend with a soulful version of the song. An impressive high note midway through the song prompted a chair turn from Kelly Clarkson as well. Kelly called his performance “impressive,” which earned her some razzing from her fellow coaches. John praised Zach’s vocal acrobatics. Zach joined Team John.

Here’s more about Zach.

* He’s a singer-songwriter currently residing in Richmond, Kentucky, and graduated from college in December.

* According to his Voice bio, his parents divorced when he was 10 and he immersed himself in music, joining choirs, a cappella groups and even a rock band.

* On Facebook, he describes himself as a Season 13 American Idol loser. Which is a little harsh, because he received a golden ticket to Hollywood in 2014 and part of his performance of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” aired on TV.

* What didn’t air is more interesting. At the time Zach was 20 and a tram driver at Disney World in Orlando and wrote a song about the park’s five safety rules as a welcome to his riders. The judges asked him to perform that during his audition too, but it wound up on the editing room floor.

* At the time, Zach said his musical influences include a mix of classic rock like Fleetwood Mac and more soulful artists like Adele and Amy Winehouse.

* Zach’s been singing for a long time. The covers on his YouTube channel — several of the oldest feature him singing with friends — date back 12 years.

* In 2018, labeling his music as folk pop, he released a five-song EP called “Memos.” He described the project this way: “I recorded and produced this EP in my living room in 24 hours, incorporating interludes and audio from the voice memos found in my cell phone. People break my heart and I write songs about them in my notes and I wanted tell everybody about that, I guess?”

* He followed that up in September with a nine-song album called “Good Night” and featuring the single “Time Machine,” which you can check out below. I have no explanation for this photo posted to promote the album. Here’s a live performance of “Winona,” another song from the album.

* Zach also writes that he’s been a background vocalist “on many projects near and far.”
