Megan Joy in a promo photo for the season eight American Idol summer tour. The  single mom with the sleeve tattoo from season eight of  Idol told fans this week that she might have a debut album out this summer.

Megan Joy delivered the news via a YouTube video, saying she spent the year after Idol collaborating with other musicians to create  “the makings of a beautiful album.”

And she spent the last year “label shopping and trying to find the right place for me. As a mother, nothing is more important than being in charge of my schedule and my life so I continue being the mother I want to be.”

She says she’s finally close to choosing that path.

“We’re thinking it’s probably going to happen this summer,” she said of an album release.

That announcement is followed by a hearty whoop.

After all, this is the young lady who flapped her arms and squawked like a bird when eliminated from Idol.

“I love birds and bird noises,” the gal from Sandy, Utah, explained at the time. “And I just decided, ‘If I’m going out, I’m going out with a bang, and I’m just going to be myself.’”

She finished ninth in season eight, the victim of inconsistent performances.

But a distinctive sound got her into the Idol finals. And she showed the potential to deliver something special when matched with the right song.

The message to fans was accompanied by a song, “Two Rivers,” which probably won’t be on the album, Megan said.
