Melanie Martinez plans to follow up her K-12 album with an EP this spring.

Melanie Martinez dropped a new song called “Copy Cat” last week. And more is on the way.

In September, Melanie released her sophomore album “K-12” and the accompanying full-length feature film, a film she directed.

Last week, she announced that she’ll be following up with an “After School” EP this spring.

“Copy Cat,” featuring an assist from Tierra Whack, is the first song from that project.

“This song was written years ago and from an empathetic perspective even while in a very hurt place,” Melanie writes of “Copy Cat” on her Instagram.

“We’re all told that imitation is flattery to ease the pain that the ego feels when other people get credited for our ideas and our work. But being human includes feeling a multitude of feelings and naturally this song came about when expressing those very raw emotions.

“I hope this song can not only bring comfort to anyone experiencing that feeling but also remind them to empathize with people who are just doing what society has conditioned them to believe will make them successful.”

Melanie is also gearing up for her nationwide K-12 tour, which will include stops in Washington, D.C. (June 16) and Philly (June 20).

A Top 6 finisher in Season 3, Melanie remains the most successful Voice alum ever.

Her debut album (2015’s “Cry Baby”) stayed on the Billboard 200 for two full years. “K-12” debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and has sold more than 250,000 units in the U.S.

Here’s the lyric video for “Copy Cat.”
