Among recent releases from artists we met on The Voice, music lovers should check out the following.
Liam St. John has done pretty well for himself after making what amounted to little more than a cameo on Season 19 of The Voice. He has nine songs on Spotify with at least 1 million streams. Seven songs from his 2022 “Stripped Back” album have a combined 30 million streams on the site. He just released his first single with the Big Loud Rock. And it’s accompanied by his first official music video. “Bonnie and Clyde are back,” Liam proclaims in promoting that video, which you can check out below. It’s for an impressive rocker called “Landslide Over the Highway,” as in “I ain’t just a rolling stone / I’m a landslide over the highway.”
Taylor John Williams, Top 5 on Season 7, has dropped an impressive new single called “Naked.” Check out the music video below. Writes Taylor: “I’m at a hilarious intersection of my life where, in some ways, I’ve never felt more confident, and in others, I’ve never felt more insecure. I think that’s the product of spending 95% of the last decade trying to figure myself out in isolation … I’d like to embrace whatever time I have left in the world with a lot less armor, because that shit is heavy and sweaty. This is what ‘Naked’ is about.” “Naked” follows “Fine Suit” and “Style” as his third single of 2024.
Chance Pena from Season 9 has a haunting new single out called “Black Bird.” It’s his first release from an upcoming album and has racked up 350,000 streams in the week since its release. Which is modest stuff for Chance, who’s September 2023 single “I am Not Who I Was” is up to 189 million streams on Spotify. Chance is opening for Kaleo on an August-September tour that inlcues a stop in D.C. Then he’s off to the U.K., France and Denmark for a series of fall shows as part of what he’s calling The Ever-Shifting Continual Blossoming Tour. Chance was just 15 when he auditioned for The Voice.
Caroline Reilly was just 16 when she auditioned for Season 17 of The Voice. Well, Caroline recently turned 21 and just released a single called “21.” It’s not about her birthday. It’s a fun, frantic, frenetic pop rocker about the perils of dating musicians. She even dressed up as a nurse for the cover since “EVERY single one of my musician exes thought Blink 182 was one of the greatest bands of all time.” Adds Caroline: “Dating other musicians can get … complicated. It’s an incredibly unique experience … Also absolutely no hate to Blink; I just thought it was silly goofy funny.” The single follows “Nightly” as Caroline’s second release of 2024.
