Wé McDonald, a Season 11 finalist, has a new single out called “Broken Wings” and shares the story behind the song on Instagram. Wé says she wrote the song a couple of years ago when she was talking to a male friend her father had warned her to stay away from. She wound up in a long-distance relationship, unable to communicate with the individual as often as she wanted because of the time difference and her performance schedule and trying not to get caught. She says they both wound up hurt and depressed. But she got a song out of it, one she wrote most of in about 20 minutes and one for which she recorded part of the vocals while lying on a couch. Of course, in the song the person she’s dying to see is a relative who has cancer.

* Jacquie, aka Jacquie Lee, has gone through multiple musical transformations since finishing second on Season 5 at age 16. Now L.A. based, she unveils another with an R&B / soul single called “Grim,” featuring an assist from bLAck pARty.

* Josh Hoyer (of Season 12) and Soul Colossal released a funky new single called “The Night” on Friday. Josh says it’s the first single from an upcoming album the band plans to released in the spring of 2020 on the Denver-based Color Red” label. Josh and the band released a 10-song album called “Do It Now” back in January.

* Ashley DuBose from Season 5 has released a new single called “JazRnB.” Ashley had teamed up with the pop-dance producer duo YNKE for an EP called “Back to Reality” earlier this year.

* Nelly’s Echo from Season 3 has put “The Lord’s Prayer” to music for his latest release. Writes Nelson: “The melody for the song came to me at a time when I needed God’s love and reassurance the most. It truly has been food for my spirit and medicine for my soul. My only prayer is that it can be the same for the millions of faceless and nameless people hurting out in the world today.”
