Nigel Lythgoe tweeted Tuesday morning that a hurricane was  headed for Charlotte, where American Idol was holding callback auditions.

Turns out the storm was apparently in the audition room.

TMZ reported last night that Nicki Minaj got into a dispute with Mariah Carey. The site then posted a video of  a supposedly profanity-laced tirade.

Honestly,  I couldn’t make out much of what was being said, though it’s pretty clear Nicki, wearing a bright pink wig, is upset about something. And Randy Jackson appears to be making an attempt to calm her down.

And TMZ reports that auditions were suspended for the day so tempers could cool.

This all comes after rumors that Mariah wasn’t happy about a second female joining the judges’ panel, though she later downplayed reports of any feud or hard feelings between the two.

And, just last week, appearing on The View, Nicki publicly thanked Mariah for helping her out early in her career.

Neither has commented on Twitter about Tuesday’s supposed blowup.

But we did get this from Ryan Seacrest:  “Going to bed in Charlotte after an anything but dull day at Idol auditions.”

If Idol’s strategy was to put two divas in a room and watch the feathers fly, it seems to be working.
