Make that two platinum selling singles for Phillip Phillips.

“Gone, Gone, Gone” went platinum — marking 1 million or more downloads — earlier this month.

The song will never match the phenomenal success of “Home,” which went platinum four times over.

But it’s certainly a decent followup an awful lot of Idol contestants would welcome.

A quick check over at Wikipedia indicates 37 Idol singles have gone platinum over the years. Apparently, that number doesn’t include coronation songs.

But 22 of those platinum hits belong to two former Idols — Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, with 11 each.

And “Gone, Gone, Gone” might not have peaked.

The song is currently sitting at its highest position yet on Billboard’s adult contemporary chart (number 9), radio songs chart (number 23) and Hot 100 chart (number 32).

It had already reached number three on the rock songs and adult pop songs charts.

Phillip’s reaction to the news about “Gone’s” sales success was typically low-key, limited to a single tweet.

“Heard Gone went platinum,” he wrote. “Thanks everyone for the support. You are all awesome.”:

In other chart news:

* After stalling for a couple of weeks, Carrie Underwood’s “See You Again” is climbing again, reaching new peaks of number eight on the country airplay and hot country singles chart.

* Mandisa’s latest single — “Overcomer” — climbed all the way to number 16 on Billboard’s Christian chart before its release. Now available for download, it’s stuck at number 15 for the second straight week.
