Predictions for next week’s finale on The Voice

2

The stage is set for the final two episodes of The Voice on Monday and Tuesday nights.

No, they will not be live.

And fans at home will not vote. Voting will be handled by an in-studio audience of “super fans” and former contestants.

The nine semifinalists will perform Monday night, hoping to secure a spot in Tuesday’s finale. Four artists — two from Team Kelly — will compete in the finals.

At this point, I’d normally rank the singers. But why bother since the finale has already been taped; the winner already determined.

Instead, I’ll provide a reminder of who’s still in the running and my predictions.

TEAM ADAM

Alexia Jayy, 31, of Mobile, Ala., sang “A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin in the blinds, turning all three chairs. She then won her battle with Moses G. She then won her knockout with Bay Simpson, singing Whitney Houston’s “You Give Good Love.

Jared Shoemaker, 32, of Richmond, Kent.: He earned the very last spot on Season 29, singing “I Never Lie” by Zach Top. He then defeated Drew Russell in the battle round and Jaali in the knockouts. Her performed “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” by Travis Tritt in the knockouts.

Jeremy Keith, 40, of Washington, D.C., turned all three chairs in the blinds when he performed Freddie Jackson’s “You Are My Lady.” He won his battle with Aziz Guerra. He won his knockout round match over Mike Steele, singing “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real thing” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

Prediction: Alexia Jayy earns Adam’s one spot in the finale. Alexia Jayy then wins The Voice, becoming the first black female champion in the show’s history.

TEAM KELLY

J.W. Griffin, 25, of Moultrie, Ga., performed “Long Haired Country Boy” by Charlies Daniels in the blinds, turning all three chairs. He then won his battle with Blaire Elbert. He prevailed over Houston Kelly in the knockouts. J.W. performed “If It Hadn’t Been for Love” by The SteelDrivers.

Liv Ciara, 16, of St. Peters, Missouri, performed “We Can’t Be Friends” by Ariana Grande, turning two chairs in the blinds. She had auditioned the season before and failed to turn a chair. She was then the recipient of Kelly’s super steal following a battle round match with Mikenley Brown. Liv performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” in the knockouts, scoring a win over Abigayle Oakley.

Mikenley Brown, 19, of New Castle, Indiana: She performed “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry in the blinds and turned all three chairs. She then won her battle with Liv Ciara and her knockout round match with Jonah Mayor. She sang “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan in the knockouts.

Prediction: J.W. Griffin and Liv Ciara make the finals.

TEAM LEGEND

K.J. Willis, 35, of Memphis, Tenn.: He turned two chairs in the blinds, singing “Roni” by Bobby Brown. He then won his battle round match over Mike Steele and his knockout over Grace Humphries. He performed “I’ll Make Love to You” by Boyz II Men in the knockout.

Lucas West, 20, of Fairport, N.Y., performed “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John in the blinds, turning two chairs. He then won a battle round match with A.J. Robinson. He sang Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” in the knockouts, scoring a win over Moses G.

Syd Millevoi, 23, of Secaucus, N.J., turned two chairs in the blinds with a rousing performance of “Mamma Knows Best” by Jessie J. And it was clear a third chair would have turned if Kelly Clarkson hadn’t already filled her team. She then won her battle with Ashley Marina. She performed Demi Lovato’s “Tell Me You Love Me” in the knockouts, scoring a win over another three-turn artist, Ashley Marina.

Prediction: Syd makes the finals. The show is called The Voice and I expect her to challenge Alexia for the Season 29 title.

Finally, a black woman might win “The Voice” That had been the only complaint at Idolforums. Not the Instant Save. Not the Judges Block. Not the montages. Unfortunately, the show would give the message that the only way a black woman would win was for the Coaches to choose her, No matter what, viewers have left the show in droves. Whomever wins, as always will just get a trophy. His/her name will be mentioned the next day. Henceforth, once again, it will be about the coach winning. Then, the coaches for the next season will be announced.

Yep, it’s about freaking time that a sister won The Voice this season. I’m tired of men winning the title season, after season.
