The big news this week is that five singers will advance to the finals on The Voice.

That’s a change from when the show previously used this format, featuring a complete set of live shows.

Back then, when semifinal week rolled around, the top three voter-getters automatically advanced to the finals; the lowest two vote-getters were automatically eliminated.

Then the three in the middle competed for an instant save to determine the fourth finalists.

This season, the top four singers will automatically advance; the other four will sing for an instant save and a fifth spot in the finals at the end of Tuesday’s show.

That increases the likelihood that all the coaches will be represented in the finale, an outcome the show forced by format during the last three seasons.

Or we could see all of Team Blake advance. In fact, that might be the more likely outcome.

Here are the Voice View rankings entering the semifinals.

1. Girl Named Tom (Team Kelly) (1): For the third straight week, the sibling trio of Bekah, Caleb and Joshua Liechty cracked the Top 10 on the Apple Music singles chart. No other Voice contestant has accomplished that all season. Last week’s genre challenge performance was their weakest yet, but I’m still most excited to see them perform when I review the Voice each week.

2. Paris Winningham (Team Blake) (2): The genre challenge didn’t pose a problem for Paris. He delivered another stellar performance — one of my two favorites of the night — singing Lonestar’s country hit “Amazed.” I’ll be amazed if he isn’t voted into the finals.

3. Jershika Maple (Team Kelly) (3): And I’ll be pleasantly amazed if Jershika makes the finals. In fact, as the winner of last week’s instant save, she’s the singer most likely to be eliminated this week. But I refuse to drop her in these rankings. Why? Go back and watch her instant save performance.

4. Wendy Moten (Team Blake) (5): Technically, she’s solid every week. But I’m still waiting to her to deliver the “moment” I expect at least once from an aspiring Voice champ. And I’m still a little grumpy that The Voice considered country music a genre challenge for someone who released an album of country covers last year.

5. Hailey Mia (Team Kelly) (4): Hailey probably needs another “Elastic Heart” moment like the one she delivered in the Top 11 night pimp spot to make the finals. Even if she doesn’t she’s put together a pretty remarkable run on the show for a 14-year-old competing in such a talented season.

6. Lana Scott (Team Blake) (8): She’s been up and down in the live shows. But last week was my favorite Lana performance yet as she put her country spin on Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.” I don’t think she’s a lock for the finals, in spite of being the lone remaining country artist. But another performance like that and I won’t be sad to see her in the finals.

7. Joshua Vacanti (Team Legend) (9): In the three weeks studio versions of The Voice performances have been available on streaming sites, he’s the only remaining contestant who hasn’t landed in the Apple Music Top 200 at least once. Suddenly, John Legend might be the coach most in danger of not having a finalist.

8. Jim and Sasha Allen (Team Ariana) (10): Theu should have been eliminated two weeks ago. Based on live show performances, they’re clearly the weakest of the semifinalists. But Voice producers will likely pull out all the stops to make sure they make the finals, lest new coach Ariana Grande be left without a finalist. All you have to do is take a look at the Voice social media accounts to know producers consider her the star of Season 21.
