Remember season two Idol winner Ruben Studdard?
Thursday morning Ruben announced plans to release his new album, “Love Is,” on May 19. The first single from the album, “Together,” is going to radio this week; his MySpace page lists a March 17 release date for it.
“Love Is” will be the fourth album from Ruben. In his blog, he says he considers it “my best album to date.”
“For all of you who said, ‘I wish Ruben would just sing me a love song,’ this album is for you,” Ruben writes.
Nicknamed “The Velvet Teddy Bear” for his smooth singing style during his Idol run, Ruben enjoyed great success with his first album. Two singles cracked Billboard’s top 10.
But the two albums he’s released since then, “I Need an Angel” and “The Return,” didn’t fare nearly as well.
Yorkers can get an up-close dose of Ruben’s talent this spring. He’s also on tour with the cast of “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” playing the lead role. The show will be at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 30.
Just in time for the release of his new music, Ruben has redesigned his MySpace page, where you can find plenty of samples of his older work.
Ruben’s is the second Idol album announcement in two days. Michael Johns told Idol viewers Wednesday night he’s also planning a May release for his new album.
Stay tuned for more. The Idol season is kicking into high gear. And that’s always been perceived as the best time for performers with Idol links to release new material.
