Ryan Innes, from The Voice Season 4, will release a new album this year.

It’s been nearly eight years since former The Voice contestant Ryan Innes released a major project.

That drought is about to end. In fact, it’s already ended in a sense.

Ryan dropped a soulful single called “I Need a Lover” about a week ago. It’s the first track from an upcoming album called The InBetween.

Ryan has also launched a Pledge Music campaign to support the project. All sorts of rewards are available to those who participate, including signed CDs and signed vinyl editions of the album when it’s released.

Ryan explains the reason for the title of his new album in his Pledge Music video.

“This record talks a little about that gray area between the highs and lows in life. I wanted to explore that area in there. That’s kind of how the songs came together — the concepts for making sense of this kind of ambiguous section in the middle.

“I think it’s the area where we live the majority of our life. Yet a lot of records want to deal with the highs and the lows, the happy and the sad, the good and evil.”

Ryan, of Provo, Utah, was 31 when he auditioned for The Voice at age 31 and turned four chairs with a cover of John Mayer’s “Gravity.”

He chose to join Team Usher and advanced to the knockout round before being eliminated.

You can keep up with Ryan through his Facebook page. On Twitter, he’s simply @ryaninnes.

Here’s “I Need a Lover.”
