Lana Scott and Samara Brown earned saves Tuesday night as the battles continued on The Voice.

Meanwhile, Jershika Maple opted to join Team Legend in the cliff hanger result left from Monday’s show.

Jershika had lost her battle with Jeremy Rosado, and Kelly had already used her steal. But John Legend and Ariana Grande both tried to steal Jershika. She went with John.

Also advancing on the strength of battle round victories Tuesday were Brittany Bree, Hailey Green, Katherine Ann Mohler, Xavier Cornell and Libianca.

Here’s a recap.

BATTLE OF THE NIGHT

Team Legend

The match: Brittany Bree vs. Samara Brown
The song: “Something He Can Feel” by En Vogue
The feedback: Kelly called their voices insane. Blake said they “owned the moment and the stage.” Ariana said she’s obsessed with both singers.
The outcome: John named four-chair turn Brittany the winner, but it was pretty clear Samara wasn’t going anywhere. And, indeed, that proved true. John pushed his save button while Kelly and Ariana both tried to steal Samara. In the end, she opted to remain with Team John.
My take: The perfect outcome. John referred to “the stank” in Brittany’s voice. And indeed, her combination of attitude, charisma and superb vocals would have had me picking her as the winner. But based on what we’ve heard so far in the battles, no way Samara should have gone home after that performance.

THE COACH GOT IT WRONG

Team Blake

The match: Hailey Green vs. Lana Scott
The song: “Girl” by Maren Morris
The feedback: All three of the other coaches praised both artists, declining to name a favorite.
The outcome: Blake named Hailey the winner, but then saved Lana, ensuring that both singers advanced.
My take: Hailey has power for days, but this song didn’t seem well suited to her strengths. Lana, with her unique and pleasantly plaintive tone was much more successful at conveying the emotion of the song. Of course, Blake said he was determined to keep them both all along. His only decision was who could better handle 30 seconds of disappointment.

THE COACH GOT IT RIGHT

Team Ariana

The match: Katherine Ann Mohler vs Vaughn Mugol
The song: “Dilemma” by Nelly and Kelly Rowland
The feedback: John and Blake gave the edge to Katherine. Kelly said Vaughn stuck out to her.
The outcome: Ariana named Katherine Ann the winner, saying she loved the way she handled the challenge for being forced out of her comfort zone. Vaughn was eliminated.
My take: You have to love Vaughn’s attitude. Upon being eliminated, the registered nurse said he’ll have a heck of a story to tell his patients. But it at Katherine Ann who was providing the majority of the vocal magic during this performance, so her win was well deserved.

MONTAGED

Team Kelly:

The match: Xavier Cornell vs. Carolina Alonso
The song: “Telepatia” by Kali Uchis
The outcome: Kelly named Xavier the winner, calling him “incredibly gifted”; Carolina was eliminated.
My take: Apparently, singing a song that isn’t in English is a quick path to montage-ville in Season 21. You’ll recall the same thing happened to Sabrina Dias when she auditioned in Portuguese.

Team Blake

The match: Libianca and Tommy Edwards
The song: “Save Your Tears” by The Weeknd
The outcome: Blake awarded the win to Libianca. Tommy was eliminated.
My take: LOL. This match got more attention in a preview clip that it did on the show! In that clip, Blake admitted the pairing was odd, but said those pairings often produce the most memorable performances. Guess not, since they were montaged.

And I’d be remiss not to note that The Voice again did not post the full performances on line for the montaged matches.

Remember, folks, this is the same show that managed to dig up Loren Allred’s unaired Season 3 blind audition as part of its 10-year anniversary celebration.

Remember, the cameras are always rolling when these battles take place. And, remember, these battles were filmed months ago.

If The Voice doesn’t post the full performances online, it’s because the show simply doesn’t care enough to do so.

Which is an insult to the artists who invest so much time in the performances. Not to mention an insult to all their fans.

How to eliminate a contestant on “The Voice.”

    1) Give him/her limited airtime.
    2) Give him/her a song out of his/her genre, language, or range.
    4) Montage him/her.
    5) Emphasize the coaches banter over him/her.
    6) Focus on the mentors.
    7) Distort his/her backstory.
    8) Use the Instant Save against him/her.
    9) Overpimp the Chosen One.
    10) Pit him/her against obvious ringers who have appeared extensively on other shows or have released full albums.
