Samuel WILCO’s time on The Voice ended in a battle round match that aired Monday night.

Both he and Arei Moon received praise for their performance of “Missing You” by John Waite.

But coach Nick Jonas named Arei the winner.

Samuel WILCO is the stage name for Sam Woodberry, of Fort Knox, Kentucky. He’s spent 21 years in the U.S. Army, will retire next year and plans to make music a large part of his post-military life.

Here’s what he told Voice Views about the battle round and his post-show plans.

Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?

Samuel: I’d have to say that my biggest takeaway would have to be clarity and direction for my future. My whole purpose for doing this was to discover if God was leading me to become a worship pastor or recording artist. Through my interactions with my fellow artists as well as all the behind the scenes preparations for the show, I gained a clear answer. I am to be both a worship pastor and a recording artist.

Voice Views: What are your post-Voice plans musically?

Samuel: Well in conjunction with creating original music, I hope to become a worship pastor. I believe that my purpose in life is to bring people together through music. I hope that this opportunity will continue to help me do just that.

Voice Views: Do you have plans to release new music? If so, what can you tell us about that?

Samuel: I do indeed. This process has awakened my passion for music and songwriting. I’m planning to create inspirational music that is a blend of blues, rock, soul, and hip hop. I will be teaming up with several other artists to include past and present members of The Voice Family.

Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?

Samuel: Yep. This experience has been SUCH an incredible blessing. What I will treasure most was the opportunity to meet so many awesome people. Everyone from my fellow artists, to the coaches, the band and every AMAZING crew member; all were/are truly THE BEST!! I love this show even more than I do before!
