Idols on the Music Chart

‘See You Again’ continues to climb for Carrie

A month ago, I gave Carrie Underwood very little chance of continuing her incredible streak of chart success.

For those unaware, the Season 4 Idol champ has had 15 straight singles hit number one or number two on the country music charts.

Carrie Underwood is trying to extend her incredible streak of singles chart success with "See You Again."

Carrie Underwood is trying to extend her incredible streak of singles chart success with “See You Again.”

Yep, 15 straight, including three off her current album — “Good Girl,” “Two Black Cadillacs” and “Blown Away,” the title track.

But back in early July, the fourth single from the album — “See You Again” — had reached number 10 on the Billboard country singles chart and started to backslide.

Streak in jeopardy?

Not so fast.

This week finds “See You Again” at a peak of number six on the country airplay chart. It advanced from 29 to 26 last week on Billboard’s overall airplay chart. And it’s back up to number nine on the hot country singles chart.

Meanwhile, her fourth studio album in still in the top 20 on the county albums chart and in the top half of the Billboard 200 == 65 weeks after its release.

Compare that to the fine fourth album recently released by Fantasia, Idol’s Season 3 winner. It just dropped out of the top half of the Billboard chart, to number 105, 15 weeks after its release.

And Carrie’s likely to get a chart boost in a couple weeks when her live Blown Away Tour DVD hits stores. It’s due out Aug. 13. For the track list and more info, head here.

Other chart highlights:

* Speaking of songs still climbing, “Gone, Gone, Gone” keeps going for Phillip Phillips. It’s up to number three on the rock songs chart and number 17 on Billboard’s radio songs chart.

* And Mandisa has cracked the top 10 on the Christian singles chart again, this time with her new single, “Overcomer.” It lands at number eight on the chart for the second straight week.
