The new Idol judging panel arrives for work (photo gallery)

Sunday wasn’t only the day Idol announced the judging panel for Season 12.

It was also the first day of work for the judges as callback auditions began in New York.

Keith Urban told The Associated Press he plans to be “authentic” but not cruel.

“I did similar shows when I was very young in Australia,” he said, “and I was sort of crucified by one judge. So I don’t know that I’ll ever be THAT guy.”

Nicki Minaj said she’ll be looking for “a superstar,” which is “something that can’t be defined in words.”

Asked what kind of judge she would be, Mariah Carey said: “Am I the mean one? Am I the nice one? … It’s not about me, me, me, it’s about them (the contestants) and what I can bring to them to help guide them in the right direction.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Seacrest just posted the photo above — showing how the judges will be seated for the auditions.

Here are photos FOX and the Associated Press provided of the judges arriving for the auditions.
