The Voice and American Idol went head to head for the first time this year Monday night.

The Voice prevailed; American Idol got hammered.

In fact, the ABC singing show scored its lowest ratings ever — on ABC or FOX — with a 1.1 rating among viewers 18-49 and a total estimated viewership of about 6.05 million.

The Voice scored the night’s best ratings, a 1.7 among that key demographic, with 9.73 million viewers.

That was down markedly from the previous Monday’s 2.0 rating, likely the product of both singing shows airing simultaneously.

American Idol still wound up with the third highest rating of the night.

It was also beaten out by FOX’s 9-1-1, which drew a 1.2 rating among 18-49 year olds.

The Voice kicks off battle rounds next week. Idol hopefuls head to Hollywood on Sunday.

    “Idol” ratings are sinking fast.

If the ratings continue to fall below a 1.6, alarm bells will be ringing loudly.

Will “Idol” be canceled after this season or will Disney/ABC/FOX continue to lose money, sponsors, and viewers due to hubris and chutzpah?
