Okay, out of a sense of obligation, I’m going to blog about the guest star list for the finale of The Voice.
But out of a sense of obligation, I’m also going to issue this warning to any newcomers to the festivities.
Recent Voice finales have been a major snoozefest, best avoided until the final 10 minutes when Carson Daly summons the Top 5 to the stage to announce the results.
I thoroughly enjoy ABC’s three-hour American Idol finales for three simple reasons. The finalists are front and center, performing multiple times. Nearly every guest stars who steps on stage is accompanied by one or more of that season’s contestants. And the winner is announced with enough time left in the show to enjoy a bit of the post-victory celebration.
Voice finales were enjoyable too, once upon a time. When the finalists performed multiple times. When nearly everyone who made the playoffs came back to participate. When guest performances were outnumbered by contestant performances.
That’s all changed. Finalists now seem like an after-thought amidst a parade performances by coaches, mentors, advisors and guest stars, some of whom have absolutely no connection to the season just completed.
I looked at this season’s guest performers list and immediately decided there was only one I cared about. Huntley, the Season 24 champ, will return to sing his new single. The rest? S-N-O-O-Z-E!
Yet another sign that The Voice has lost its way. Big time.
Anyway, here’s what’s on tab for Tuesday’s two-hour finale, which begins at 9 p.m.
Former coaches Dan + Shay will return to perform tunes from their first collection of holiday songs.
Former coach Kelly Clarkson will return to perform her new holiday single, “You for Christmas.”
Season 26 coach Michael Bublé and playoff advisor Carly Pearce will perform their new duet “Maybe This Christmas.”
Editor’s note: It’s at this point that I will interrupt this boring list with a reminder that lots of former Voice contestants have new holiday music out. And they COULD USE a performance slot to help promote it a HELL OF A LOT MORE than Kelly Clarkson, Dan + Shay, Michael Bublé or Carly Pearce. Which speaks volumes — absolute volumes — about where this show’s priorities lie.
Season 26 coach Snoop Dogg and Season 26 mentor Sting will perform their new collaboration “Another Part of Me.” UGH! Enough of Sting already.
Myles Smith, a singer-songwriter from the UK, will perform a song called “Stargazing.”
Country singer Riley Green will perform a song called “Don’t Mind That I Do,” recorded with an assist from Ella Langley.
Tears for Fears will sing a medley of their hits and a bit of a new song called “The Girl That I Call Home.”
Season 24 winner Huntley will perform his new single “Skyline Drive.” I’ll listen to Huntley. I plan to mute every other performance on this list out of protest to how off-the-mark The Voice finale has become. I might even listen to a great song from a former Voice contestant while The Voice is on mute.
For some unfathomable reason, Martha Stewart will make “a special appearance.” And The Voice felt the need to mention that in its press release about this grand event.
Now, recent finales have included one performance by each finalist. They typically get to sing a duet with their coach.
If that’s happening this time around, it isn’t mentioned in the press release. Because, hey, why write about your finalists — Sofronio Vasquez, Shye, Jeremy Beloate, Sydney Sterlace and Danny Joseph — when you can write about Martha Stewart.
Heck, it’s sorta like The Voice’s social media accounts. Photos of the coaches are front and center right now. Unbelievably, four days after they were named, The Voice has yet to post a celebratory photo of the five finalists to Instagram or Facebook.
But count on this. As the credits roll Tuesday night, Carson Daly will shove a trophy into someone’s hands. Leaving not a moment for viewers and fans to celebrate along with the winner.

And you will never, ever hear Huntley’s single on the radio.
I’ve been using Spotify to check out music by the Voice winners. Very few of them have put out full length albums. Most put out EPs and singles. Same situation with the newer American Idol winners (seasons 12 thru present time).
Laci Kaye Booth from the Laine Hardy season of Idol released a great album this year, Loneliest Girl in the World.
This is somewhat old, but still applies as to why these shows are not producing stars anymore.

Martha Stewart will most likely be paired up with Snoop Dogg for some lame comedy routine, like they did during the Olympics.
They’ve also been paired up together for the Puppy Bowl as well.
The producers, coaches, and host of “The Voice” simply don’t care anymore.
It’s paychecks to them.
Both Sting and Tears for Fears should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Instead, they are being reduced to this.
