In one YouTube post Tuesday, The Voice proved a point I’ve been making for years.
In the process, the show confirmed its disregard for the efforts of its contestants.
And, in the end, The Voice couldn’t even get this simple nod to fairness right.
The Voice just completed its knockout round. It took five weeks of airtime to do so. And the show still found a need to montage the knockout round match between Trinity and Jack Austin.
Only a few seconds of Trinity’s performance aired. Not a single second of Jack’s did. In fact, he wasn’t even mentioned.
Then came Tuesday.
Presto. Trinity’s full knockout round performance appeared on YouTube.
Now, I’m happy for Trinity. Thrilled to see the performance magically appear online.
Trinity’s the only playoff-bound contestant whose knockout didn’t air. Putting the performance online only seems fair.
Ah, but I’ve got questions.
Aubrey Nicole’s blind audition was montaged. She is playoff bound for Team Reba.
So why didn’t the show put her full blind audition performance on YouTube on Tuesday?
And how about Jack Austin? He’s the only other contestant who’s knockout round performance didn’t air in Season 28. I’m pretty sure he invested lots of time preparing for the performance.
Yet if you watched The Voice, he just vanished. I mean, completely vanished.
On the Oct. 27 episode, in the very last battle round match that aired, we watched Michael Buble steal Jack following a Team Niall battle round match with DEK of Hearts.
That’s the last mention of Jack on the show. Fans weren’t even told he was eliminated. I knew because Jack could be seen sitting in the background on stage during the few seconds of Trinity’s performance that did air.
With Trinity’s performance now online, shouldn’t Jack’s be as well?
And by posting Trinity’s performance, the show made it clear that all the montaged performances — from this season and past seasons — were filmed. They exist, perhaps even in edited form.
Every time a performance is montaged, the show could easily post the full performances online. It’s something I’ve been arguing the show should do. A point I’ve been making for years, season after season after season.
Why doesn’t The Voice do that?
Laziness?
Lack of concern about what fans — especially fans of the affected artists — might want to see online?
Lack of respect for the immense amount of time and effort contestants put into their Voice performances?
All three sure would fit.
I’ll just chalk it up to general incompetence on the part of Voice producers. The same producers who have ruined a once perfectly fine singing show.
The same producers who roll out the same battle round and knockout round format every season, regardless of the amount of airtime NBC gives the show.
The same producers who manage to make this show less relevant and less watchable season after season after season.
But let’s all sing it together: “This is The Voice.”

Let’s not all sing “This is ‘The Voice'”
Keep spreading the truth, Mark.
Contestants should have never been montaged.
Oh, and I had been rooting for Ricky Braddy, who was treated so awfully on “Idol” Season 8.
Then, he got hosed by “The Voice.”
Follow your favorites once the seasons end.
They are going to need all the professional help they can get.
This shattered dream they cannot justify.
We’re gonna scream until we’re satisfied.
What are the contestants competing for?
We’ve got the right to be angry.
What are we watching “The Voice” for?
Stand up and fight the enemies-the coaches, that host, those producers, the network.
It’s all about money.
What a blown opportunity.
