The Voice has revealed the duet pairings for Monday’s Top 8 episode.

Well, not officially. But they’ve posted the duet hashtags on the voting rules page, and that’s good enough for me.

If you hadn’t heard, each contestant will sing twice on Monday, one solo song and one duet.

And — in what I consider an absolutely ridiculous twist — the duets will actually be more important than the solo songs.

That’s because The Voice has added an additional way to vote for the duets and the duets only.

By tweeting a particular hashtag during the official voting window (8 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday east coast time, adjust accordingly elsewhere) you can cast one vote for both members of a duet.

There is a limit of one vote per Twitter account. But retweets count as well.

And since all of the streaming and download rules apply to the duets, a contestant can actually accumulate more votes from the duet than their solo performance.

Of course, this is a solo competition, which makes this rule both bizarre and inane.

But, hey, “This is The Voice.”

As for those pairings, here they are, followed by the hashtag you’ll need to keep handy.

Adam Cunningham of Team Adam Levine will duet with Red Marlow of Team Blake Shelton. Hashtag: #AdamRedDuet

Brooke Simpson, the only remaining member of Team Miley Cyrus, will duet with Davon Fleming of Team Jennifer Hudson. Hashtag: #BrookeDavonDuet

Addison Agen of Team Adam Levine will duet with Keisha Renee of Team Blake Shelton. Hashtag: #AddisonKeishaDuet

Chloe Kohanski of Team Blake Shelton will sing with Noah Mac of Team Jennifer Hudson. Hashtag: #ChloeNoahDuet

So what do you think?

In terms of musical pairings, given the eight singers involved, this is about as good as The Voice could have done in my mind. Though it’s interesting to note, there’s not a single example of teammates performing together.

The pairing that sticks out as ill-fitting is Addison and Keisha. Keisha’s prone to impress with vocal power and acrobatics. Addison’s all about interpretation. Not a good match in my mind.

Chloe and Noah, on the other hand, are well-suited to perform together. Not to mention a social media power couple.

The fun starts at 8 p.m. tomorrow. The top three vote-getters automatically advance to the finals; the bottom two head home. The three finishing in between will compete for the final instant save of Season 13.
