For me, the first came when Carson Daly was launching into the Twitter save portion of the show, introduced Comeback Stage winner Kanard Thomas and cross battle loser L.B. Crew and proclaimed that “one of their lives is going to change in a minute.”
Well, it might change for a week, which is how long it will be until The Voice axes five more artists in its merciful dash toward the end of Season 16.
At most the winner’s life would change for three weeks, which is the ridiculously short length of the Season 16 finals on The Voice.
A life-changing moment? Hardly.
The second came when it was Adam Levine’s turn to save an artist. He looked at the stage and pronounced himself “pretty shocked” that none of his four remaining singers had been voted through to the Top 13.
Really Adam? Were you paying any attention to what happened during the cross battles, when nearly every one of your contestants lost and when nearly every one of Blake Shelton’s contestants won? Did you even peek at the iTunes results after Monday’s show, when seven singers cracked the Top 200 and five of them were from Team Bake?
The anticipated Team Blake landslide materialized — five of the eight artists voted through by fans were from his team, giving him six finalists overall.
And it was not shocking in the least.
The good news: I have a feeling we’ll never see this format again. At least not without serious tweaks.
The show’s focus — whether producers admit it or not — is coach based. If you create a format that allows one coach to dominate so thoroughly … well, you’ve pretty much blown your format to bits.
Let’s say The Voice keeps this format. Flash forward to the Season 17 blind auditions. All Blake Shelton has to say is: “Look at what happened in the Season 16 cross battles? Look what happened on Top 24 night? Why would you join any other team?”
Indeed, there’d be no plausible reason not to flock to Team Blake.
I suspect some coaching egos might have been bruised over the past three weeks as well.
Meanwhile, many fans were not humored in the least by what happened Tuesday night.

I’ve been writing the same thing for nearly a month now, once it was clear producer were going to mangle Season 16 beyond repair, were going to mangle it so badly that no number of other worldly performances from a talented cast could salvage it.

This is not about the best voices in the country, but it seems to be about country music lobbyists getting the vote out to save all the beefy male country singers on Team Blake.
What a boring finale! The only actual vocalist left on the stage is Maelyn, and it was hard to suffer through 9 generic country songs to hear her sing 3 songs.
It’s about time the Voice got away from the coaches competing against each other, and becoming cheerleaders for whoever is on their team, and just be together with all their expertise, and make sure they allow the best vocalists available to have a full shot at exposure and a chance to wow the voters with their voices.
This may be it for me as a viewer if this cross-battle pro-country music format continues (I’ve watched every season since its inception, and used to believe it was better than American Idol, because it promoted vocal artists, but not anymore.
