Vonzell Solomon takes to Internet to finance EP

Add Vonzell Solomon to the list of American Idol contestants who have taken to the Internet to raise money to finance an upcoming CD.

Vonzell has a campaign to raise $20,000 under way on IndieGoGo.  Here’s the link for more information.

Don’t remember Vonzell?

She was the third-place finisher back on season four of Idol, when Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice made the finals.

Now 27, she’s stayed busy in music since then, but her only release has been an eight-track EP entitled “My Struggle” that came out back in October 2006.

In her video pitch for what she’s calling “The Vonzell Project,” the lady nicknamed “Baby V” says she’s recorded enough material for at least three albums since Idol, but has always run into hangups on the business end of those ventures.

“Being an independent artist has proved to be more challenging than I first thought,”  she says in her IndieGoGo video.

But she’s persevered and has been tweeting recently that she wants to release her EP of eight to 10 songs on Jan. 24.

In the meantime, Vonzell is performing as part of a Motown Memories show that runs through Dec. 17 at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottdale, Ariz.

Want a taste of what to expect if “The Vonzell Project” comes to fruition?

Here’s one of the songs that will be on the EP.  It’s called “Dirt Bag” and it’s already available on iTunes. In fact, Vonzell was tweeting about shooting the video for the song last week.

Which makes for a promising start, Vonzell.
