Tess Boyer gets 1st save on The Voice Season 6

As the iTunes results rolled in for The Voice artists today, we learned a lot about Season 6.

Specifically, that the outcome might not be as easy to predict as some of us suspected.

For instance …

1. In spite of a social media edge that looks insurmountable, Christina Grimmie isn’t a lock to win this thing. Despite a fine performance Monday, “Dark Horse” was just fourth among the iTunes hits for The Voice.

2. It isn’t all about The Voice. Otherwise, how can you explain Sisaundra Lewis’ song being only sixth-most-popular from last night’s show?

3. Further proof of that comes in the form of Jake Worthington, who landed number three on iTunes in spite of a vocal that started off very rough. But like Shakira said, he’s one of Season 6’s most “endearing.”

4. The pimp spot is called that for a reason. Josh Kaufman was very good Monday night. I’m not sure he was 26 spots better than everyone else, which is what the iTunes results showed.

5. Kristen Merlin should survive the mic malfunction, which is good news, because an equipment malfunction should not sink a contestant on a show like this.

6. T.J. Wilkins and Dani Moz should be very nervous tonight. I predicted Monday that they might be at the bottom of the voting; they were the only two singers who didn’t crack the Top 200 on iTunes.

Which brings us to the instant save, which returns tonight with a new wrinkle. This year, each singer in the bottom three will get to sing one last time to convince you they are worth saving.

Sorta like on another singing show I know.

It’s worth noting that the instant save debuted last year and not a single saved contestant survived the following week.

For a look at where everyone landed on iTunes today, head here. And check back at 8 p.m. when I’ll be live blogging during the results show.

And the results begin …

Advancing to the Top 10:

1. Josh Kaufman. No surprise there. His song cracked the Top 10 on iTunes today.

2. Kat Perkins: She did a nice job on “Music Man.”

3. Kristen Merlin: Glad to see the mic mishap didn’t affect her support.

4. Audra McLaughlin: Hey, the Philly girl advances on The Voice.

5. Delvin Choice: Interesting, two singers are safe on Team Adam, and one isn’t Christina Grimmie.

6. Jake Worthington: I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing lots of Jake on The Voice.

7. Bria Kelly: I thought Bria did well last night, not everyone shared that opinion.

8. Christina Grimmie: No way she was going home tonight.

9. Sisaundra Lewis: And now the favorites are safe.

And that means T.J. Wilkins, Dani Moz and Tess Boyer will sing for the save.

T.J. Wilkins: He’s going to sing “I’ll Be” as his save me song. And folks, T.J. is showing us why he should go home tonight. Expect for that one nice glory note, that was not a very good save-me performance. Grade: C–

Dani Moz: She’ll sing “Turning Tables.” Not loving this performance either, but Dani has a really strong voice and hit some very big notes over the course of that song. Grade: B–

Tess Boyer: She’s performing Kelly Clarkson’s “Dark Side.” Another big voice. And she’s performing with more passion than the first two singers, which will be enough to win me over. Man, you can tell she’s feeling the pressure. Grade: B–

And Voice fans save Tess Boyer.

That means T.J. Wilkins and Dani Moz are heading home.
