There’s been a lot of talk of ending the girl curse on The Voice.
After nine seasons, a female coach has yet to lead a singer to victory on NBC’s hit show.
It’s a curse Christina Aguilera is determined to end in Season 10.
But as much as her team has been praised for its strength, she actually enters the knockout round with the weakest team in terms of blind audition chair turns.
Her eight singers turned 18 chairs during the blind audition round, and some of those were the result of Blake Shelton turning at the last moment to aggravate Christina when he had zero chance of luring the singer to his team.
Of course, as I’ve noted many times before, chair turns can be deceiving. Heck, Jeffery Austin made it all the way to the finals in Season 9 after turning just one chair in the blinds.
Here’s a look at how the teams stack up entering Monday’s knockout round. Follow the links and you’ll find a bio on each singer complete with videos of pre-show music. The number is parenthesis is the number of chairs the artist turned during th blind audition round.
Team Adam
The only two guys who turned four chairs during the blind audition — Ryan Quinn and Owen Danoff — are members of Team Adam. Laith Al-Saadi delivered a win-worthy battle round vocal. Brian Nhira, formerly of Team Pharrell, was darn impressive too. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see Owen’s battle.

Team Blake
In Mary Sarah, Angie Keilhauer, Brittany Kennell and Katie Basden, Team Blake is loaded with ladies who have already released great music. Mary Sarah is the one who turned four chairs during the blinds, but I’d hate to see any of them depart. Adam Wakefield was oh, so impressive in his battle. Lacy Mandigo is an interesting addition after going toe-to-toe with Alisan Porter in the battle round and earning a steal.

Team Christina
Ah, but it will only take one singer to break that curse. And right now, the show’s early season favorite, Alisan Porter, is a member of Team Christina. She scored the biggest iTunes hit of the blinds and her duet with Lacy was the most successful on iTunes from the battles. Returning contestant Bryan Bautista was brilliant in the battles, too, and Kata Hay brings tons of energy to every performance.

Team Pharrell
Young Emily Keener reminds me of a female Sawyer Fredericks and her original music is oh, so good. Nick Hagelin might be the show’s most promising male pop singer. And Pharrell might have improved his team the most with the addition to two young singers — Malik Heard and Shalyah Fearing. Shalyah went against the much more experienced Tamar Davis on “Lady Marmalade” in the battles and held her own.
