Will Nicki Minaj perform with Mariah Carey on Idol?

0

Since their highly publicized “was it real?” blowup this summer, I’ve pretty much ignored the speculation about the supposed feud between Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

But this morning, after winning two categories at the American Music Awards Sunday night, Nicki called in to chat with Ryan Seacrest on his radio program.

Ryan mentioned that Mariah’s husband, Nick Cannon, mentioned a duet between the two might be appropriate.

Nicki laughed, then said, a bit tentatively: “If she’ll have me, I’ll be there waiting.”

Nicki spoke more extensively about the upcoming season of Idol, suggesting “fans are gonna love it.”

“Just the chemistry of the judges is really different from anything we’ve seen before on Idol,” she said.

But, she confessed, she’ll probably be too nervous to watch the taped episodes, at least when they’re initially aired.

Nicki seems to be having second thoughts about some of the feedback she gave contestants.

“Everyone else was so nice,” she says, adding that she worries some of her feedback “was not nice.”

“As an artist, I’ve always grown more from the tougher criticism,” she told Ryan. “I would like to be that person — to help people get that thick skin and give it their all.”

For the full interview — including the secret behind Nicki’s hair — head here.

Meanwhile, here’s a prediction: At some point during Season 11, Mariah and Nicki will perform together.
