But Benson Boone broke his silence, posting a comment on his Instagram page Monday night.
Ryan Seacrest made the stunning announcement Monday night that Wyatt had dropped out of the show for personal reasons.
Monday marked Idol’s first live show of the season. In a pre-taped show that aired Sunday, Wyatt performed “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon, received positive feedback from the judges and got the news that he’d been voted into the Top 16.
Wyatt, 19, is from Park City Utah. He’d originally wowed the judges at his audition, performing an original (“Best for You”) he’d written for his sister. The song appears on his 2020 EP, “Brand New Boy.”
Meanwhile, Benson Boone was one of the stars of Idol’s season premiere audition episode, but hadn’t been seen on the show since.
The 18-year-old from Monroe, Wash., auditioned with “Punchline” by Aiden Martin and not only impressed the judges vocally, but had Katy Perry predicting that the girls “will swoon over Benson Boone.”
Perhaps. Benson has 1.5 million followers on TikTok and is up to more than 125,000 on Instagram.
He posted his Idol message Monday night, writing: “Hey guys, I know many of you have been asking where I went on American Idol.
“It was a really hard decision for me to make, but I decided to step down from the competition.
“I am so grateful to have been part of the show. Everyone was amazing and it was an incredible experience.
“Shout out to the remaining contestants. You guys are amazing!! Best of luck to you all.”
Of course, what’s missing from the message is the one thing everyone’s wondering about: Why?
Perhaps in time.
Benson was rumored to have been selected as one of Season 19’s Top 24 — a decision made by the judges — before dropping out.
