His audition: John Sullivan, 32, of Denver, N.C., auditioned with “Operator” by Jim Croce. Blake turned just as John hit the chorus. And before he finished that chorus, Gwen turned as well. Blake complimented him on his perfect pitch and story-teller vibe. John opted to join Team Blake.

* In his website bio, John says he started playing piano at age 4, but didn’t pick up the guitar until he was 23.

* That’s because he gave up music around age 17 to focus on playing baseball. “Baseball wound up running its course (there’s a photo on Instagram of John pitching in college) and guitar kind of filled that void for me,” he said in a 2018 interview with a local TV station.

* Learning the guitar also spurred his interest in songwriting, and he’s among many Season 19 Voice contestants who have already released music.

* John says his music is influenced by artists like Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, The Band and Grateful Dead — the kind of music his father used to listen to on the radio when he would take his children to school.

* In 2017, he released a series of singles as John Sullivan, including “Alone,” “To Aberdeen,” “Love the Way You Love” and “Never Good.” They’re still available on streaming sites.

* In 2019, he released a six-song “Sulli and Friends” EP, which included a couple of the previously released singles. You can check out two of John’s originals below.

* He and friends have been hosting a Dog Island Jam in Lake Norman each year since 2017. Of course, the 2020 event was canceled due to the pandemic.

* He’s from Denver, N.C., and typically performs around the Charlotte, Lake Norman area, he says on his website.
