At the start of Monday’s live playoffs on The Voice, host Carson Daly announced that Ryan Gallagher had to leave the competition.

Now a show spokesperson is saying that was because broke the show’s cCvid protocols, according to mlive.com.

The site quoted Tori Walsh of NBC Universal as saying: “The Voice has strict Covid protocols in place to secure a safe set. Ryan broke those protocols and out of an abundance of caution, we cannot have him continue in the competition and potentially put others at risk.”

Entertainment Tonight is also reporting that was the cause for his exit from the show.

Ryan was one of the artists who competed in the four-way knockout, aired the previous week. The top vote-getter after those performances aired was to participate as the 17th singer in Monday’s live playoffs.

Ryan’s ouster meant the competition for that spot was narrowed to Taryn Papa of Team Blake, Larriah Jackson of Team Gwen and Julia Cooper of Team Legend. Taryn received the spot.

On the show, Ryan had previously revealed that his mother was suffering from a serious case of covid at one point. Keep in mind, everything we saw before Monday night was pre-taped several weeks in advance of airing.

On social media, Ryan assured fans everyone in his family is fine, that he didn’t drop out of the show and “details are still to come.”

Ryan, 32, of Ada, Mich., stood out on the show for singing opera, specifically Andrea Bocelli songs, in his blind audition and again in the knockout round.

Ryan previously appeared on MTV’s “Ex on the Beach: Peak of Love,” which aired from December 2019 to February 2020, and the 2016 ABC-CBN music competition show “I Love OPM (Original Pinoy Music),” which required contestants to sing Filipino songs.
