Dana Monique from The Voice Season 20

Dana Monique is among the singers to announce they auditioned for Season 20 of The Voice.

Here’s more about Dana:

* A product of Houston, Texas, Dana has spent most of her career as a background singer, joking that she’s been “a background singer since 10th grade.”

* In an interview with Pangburn, Dana says she grew up in a musical family. Her mom, she said, wrote a very well-known song in the Christian community. Her dad played bass guitar for “some wonderful big-name people.”

* She started out as a background singer for Christian artists and has since performed with and recorded for secular artists as well.

* Dana said she didn’t mind being a background singer because “I love helping other people bring their dreams to life.”

* “Plus,” she adds, “I was like, I can learn so much back here and not be responsible for the front until I’m ready. And then it (the background work) took off and didn’t stop.”

* The Pangburn interview, however, was prompted because Dana was headlining a BB King show. The gig included performing on cruise ships.

* Dana has a son who is also a musician, a rap artist who can sing and was performing under the name SALVATIXN at the time.

* At the time of the September 2019 interview, Dana said she had started working on original music and an album that she hoped to release in 2020. It hasn’t landed yet.

Editor’s note: Season 20 of The Voice is scheduled to kick off Monday, March 1 on NBC.
