More about Carolina:
* Carolina’s father performed in a number of mariachi bands and always encouraged his daughter to sing.
* Because of her shyness, Carolina didn’t join choir until she was in high school. But after one performance, she was hooked.
* For the past seven years, she’s performed with her dad twice a week at a Mexican restaurant called La Fonda in Reno.
* She also attends University of Nevada Reno, studying biochemistry with the goal of becoming a pharmacist. She’s currently a senior.
* Carolina said it’s important to her parents that she end up in a job not as physically taxing as the ones they’ve done.
* When her family first moved to Reno, they lived in an uncle’s garage. But Carolina said her parents worked “super hard” and were eventually able to purchase their own home.
* Carolina told the Reno Gazette Journal that she chose to perform “El Triste” because of the song’s meaning. “It’s about the loss of a loved one and how the memories of loved ones help you live your own life. I just wanted to sing that for my family and in thinking about family that has passed away.”
* Carolina was eliminated in he battle round, but praised The Voice experience, writing on Instagram that: “From rehearsals to The Voice stage, this whole experience has been such a dream. Can’t believe I got to sing on the stage of the show I grew up watching. The shy, anxious 16-year-old me, who couldn’t even speak up in front of a class, let alone sing in front of anyone, would not believe that I was doing this.”
