The Voice returns to NBC Monday night.
Here’s more about Kate:
* She’s a Kansas City-based singer-songwriter who’s already released quite a bit of music and clearly has a fun-loving personality.
* Want proof? Check out her announcement that she’s going to be on The Voice. “See me be a goob on national television,” she says between screams and what I suppose is her version of a happy dance.
* Want more proof? Check out the music video for “Emergency Contact,” released last May. You can watch it below.
* Kate calls it a “non-committal millennial/Gen Z love song. I wanted a song that could immediately make me and anyone who happens to see me perform laugh together. This song is my favorite to play live because it always gets people laughing, and if I can make someone’s night a little more fun — then I’ve won!”
* The song is the lead track and one of four on Kate’s impressive 2022 independent EP, “Note to Self.”
* And that’s the second EP Kate has released, following 2016’s “Smart.” In between, there have been a number of singles. Be sure to check out 2022’s “Prettiest Girl in the Room.”
* On a more serious note, Kate prides herself on not shying away from serious topics, she says on her website. That includes the struggles of a trans child (“Dirt On It”), Alzheimer’s disease (“Just Remember”) and eating disorders (“Starved for Love”).
* In a 2021 interview with Authority Magazine, Kate says she grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, was obsessed with anything artsy as a kid and started taking guitar lessons at age 7.
* At that time, Kate said she was a huge fan of Guitar Hero 3, Hannah Montanna and Eddie Van Halen and wanted to be the next great female guitarist.
* Then a teacher introduced her to Regina Spektor and, she says, “I fell in love with song-writing.”
* She was still in high school when she was invited to write a song for a project aimed at young girls, only to discover later that her song would be featured in the American Girl Doll line.
* Kate graduated from Belmont University and says her other musical inspirations include Norah Jones, Phoebe Bridgers and St. Vincent.
* Kate’s engaged, getting married in September and recently gave her bridesmaids roller skates because she loves to roller skate. No, she won’t be roller skating down the ailse “as cool as that would be,” Kate assures family and friends.
