On the first night of Hollywood Week, American Idol fans saw four singers risk their chance of beating the biggest cut in the show’s history with an original song.
The good news is that the risk paid off for all four singers — Triston Harper, Emmy Russell, Jennifer Jeffries and Kayko.
The even better news is that everyone but Triston has also released those songs so fans can download or stream them now.
Emmy performed a song called “Like That” on Sunday’s show. She called it “deeply, deeply personal,” then added: “All my songs are basically a confession.”
Idol actually aired only a snippet of the song, and even then cut out a couple of lines of the chorus that tempered the song’s emotional pull.
Emmy released the full version of the song Monday, the same day Idol revealed that she advanced to the Top 24.
Jennifer, just 17, performed “You Were a Child” for her Idol Area performance. She said she wrote the song after watching some of her eight siblings struggle with anxiety and depression.
She released the song the day the show aired. And fans got a bonus, a second new song from Jennifer called “Shadow Monsters.”
Then there’s Kayko, who released a six-song EP called “Poser” on Monday. The title track, written about his Idol experience, was released as a single a month ago and already has more than 100,000 streams on Spotify.
The EP also includes “What If,” the song he performed on Idol Sunday night, and “Time of Your Life,” his Idol audition song.
Some of the tracks, including “Poser” and “What If” were produced in conjunction with Song House in Nashville.
That’s the same group that collaborated with Emmy on her Idol audition song, “Skinny.”
And here’s a treat. Head to Kayko’s Instagram and you can watch a clip of him and Emmy performing a song together called “We’re Not in a Civil War.”
The Top 24 — including Kayko, Emmy, Jennifer and Triston — perform for fan votes on Sunday and Monday. Head here to find out who’s performing when and for a photo gallery of the Idol standouts and their Top 24 mentor.
