Please, tell me it’s a joke: Miley Cyrus is Idol’s mentor?

It’s decided to turn this week over to teens altogether.

Gone is the teen idol theme, announced just last week in the same press release that bade farewell to Lacey Brown.

In its place we get Billboard No. 1 hits.

Ah, but we’ll still get teens with our American Idol.

This week’s guest mentor is Miley Cyrus.

Go ahead, gasp.

I sure did.

I mean, Miley’s made tons of money with marginal singing talent, which certainly is a talent in itself.

But she’s only 17. She’s younger than all but two of this year’s contestants.

And she’s going to be their mentor? This is a joke, right?

Please, tell me it’s a joke.

Joe Jonas will perform on American Idol's results show Wednesday night. (AP Photo)Just for good measure, we get to hear Miley sing on the results show. She’ll sing “When I Look at You.”

I just heard it for the first time.

Since it’s the week for being juvenile: Yuck! Yuck! And double yuck!

Joe Jonas, a barely non-teen at age 20, will also perform Wednesday. He’ll sing “Make a Wave,” a duet with Demi Lovato, age 17.

Look Idol, if you’re going to give us teens this week, how about bringing back some of your best?

I’d much rather hear from David Archuleta, Jordin Sparks and Allison Iraheta, all three of whom can sing rings around Miley, even if they lack the Disney pedigree.
