Her audition: ChrisDeo, 16, Queens, N.Y., “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz: Wow, ChrisDeo showed off a lovely, pure tone from the word go. Snoop Dogg turned in a heartbeat. She hit a couple pitchy spots after that, but still got a last-second chair turn from Michael Buble. The coaches’ reaction brought tears from ChrisDeo, prompting Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire to rush the stage to comfort her. Gwen called her voice angelic. Michael loved her raw emotion. Snoop said he wants to see ChrisDeo crying tears of happiness. ChrisDeo joined Team Snoop Dogg.

* She’s a first-generation American whose mother was born in Trinidad and Tobago and whose father is from Guyana, according to her Voice bio.

* She credits her mom for introducing her to music. She’s taught herself to play guitar and piano and also writes her own music.

* ChrisDeo says she lives in “the projects” for low-income families in New York. Music offers her an escape from the violence and gang activity that goes on outside her home.

* Her love of music hasn’t always been welcome. She told The Voice a neighbor would bang on the wall when she practiced piano, and passers-by have laughed at her while she busks.

* That said, ChrisDeo has posted videos of her busking experience and sounds great on her Voice audition song and a cover of “Hallelujah,” which you can check out below.

* ChrisDeo dedicated her audition song choice to her mother, for the strength she showed raising four daughters on her own and “how she’s never given up on me.”

* According to her Voice bio, ChrisDeo’s passion for music was fueled when her mother enrolled her and her older sister Aaliah in the New York City Housing Authority’s youth chorus.

* ChrisDeo also attended a program for low-income high school students at the New York University Clive Davis Institute, where she learned to produce and record her own music.
