Mary McAvoy of The Voice Season 26

Mary McAvoy of The Voice Season 26

Her audition: Mary McAvoy, 35, Boston, Mass., “Say You Love Me”: She showed off a nice, emotional tone and gets quick chair turns from Michael Buble and Snoop Dogg. She displayed really nice range too. Snoop complimented her on a wonderful voice and promised to listen as well as coach if she joins his team. Michael displays a macaroni necklace to entice Mary to join his team. After all, Snoop has been showing off the necklaces his team members receive since the blinds began. Mary opted for one of those fancier necklaces, joining Team Snoop.

Here’s more about Mary.

* She’s from Boston, now based in Providence, Rhode Island and performs throughout the New England area.

* And she’s released lots of music you can listen to now, stretching back to a 2015 album called “Wanderlust” and a 2018 EP called “Lonely Love.”

* One of her latest releases, the single “Another Life” was nominated as 2023 song of the year for the New England Music Awards. You can check it out below.

* Her website bio describes her music as “chilled out pop” with rock, soul, blues and Americana influences.

* And her Spotify bio indicates her vocal inspirations include H.E.R., Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin.

* Among her recent career highlights: Opening for Nancy Wilson of Heart for two shows in Massachusetts last year.

* Writes Mary of the experience: “It was an incredible two nights of doing what I love and meeting world class musicians along the way. I used to dream of playing stages like this as a kid in the backseat listening to my CD player, crossing the Sagamore Bridge for summer vacations on the Cape — what a full circle moment to play these stages.”

* She hasn’t released music since April 2023, but clearly has some excellent originals ready to go. She’s recently posted snippets of two of those — “Hummingbird” and “Change My Name” — to Instagram and TikTok.

* After announcing her Voice audition on social media last week, Mary posted this message to her fans: “Many of you know it’s been a long road for me to get here. I hope at the very least, my journey prior to and throughout my time on the show, inspires you to keep going after what your heart desires and what you know is meant for you — no matter what life throws your way.”

* Mary has announced that she’ll be dropping a new single, “Fool’s Errand,” sometime in November. You can check out a snippet of the soulful tune on her Instagram.
