Jay Ammo of The Voice Season 27

His audition: Jay Ammo, 29, Clarksville, Tenn., The A Team by Ed Sheeran: Jay is from Guyana. His gentle opening earns chairs turns from Adam Levine, John Legend and Kelsea Ballerini. Michael Buble eventually turns as well, giving him a four-chair turn. John complimented him on a lovely voice. Adam said Jay’s voice is special and magical and unique to the competition. Michael said he has a “beautiful tone.” Jay opted to join Team Legend.

Here’s more about Jay.

* In his Facebook bio, Jay writes: “Music is everything to me, so I make music for everyone.”

* And he’s released lots of music since 2020, including an album in 2021 (the 12-song “4 Seasons”), an EP in 2023 (the 5-song “Red”) and several singles since.

* In fact, he’s already released two singles this year — “Naked” and “World on Fire.” Check out the superb vocal on the latter below. Says Jay: “This song is about going against the grain of the world and choosing what you love over everything.”

* Jay introduces himself in a series of “The Kitchen” videos on his YouTube channel. He was born and spent the first 21 years of his life in Guyana, South America. He moved to the U.S. with his parents in 2016.

* He started singing at age 10 and started getting positive feedback about his voice around age 14. It’s also at age 14 that he was taught how to play guitar by his uncle, also his godfather.

* Before music, he had a wide range of jobs, from electrician to salesman to telecommunications, which included climbing towers.

* He says his biggest musical influence is Ed Sheeran, especially his story-telling ability through music. “The way he writes is phenomenal,” Jay adds.

* Based in Clarksville, Tenn., Jay says he feels he’s now reached the point where “I know who I am as an artist now. I know the kind of music I want to make.”

* Jay sums up his goal with that music this way in his Spotify bio: “I get asked a lot why I chose music. The answer is simple: It chose me first. My goal for all listeners (is) to feel something or be able to unpack their emotions, listen to the music and know that everything will be ok.”

* Jay also spent six years in the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
