Mattie Pruitt of American Idol Season 23

Season 23 officially kickeds off Sunday, March 9 on ABC with Season 4 champ Carrie Underwood joining Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan at the judges’ table.

Audition episodes will continue to air each Sunday until Hollywood Week begins.

Here’s more about Mattie:

* She’s a 15-year-old upcoming country soul artist determined to share “my passion for singing,” according to her Instagram.

* And in spite of her youth, lots of people have taken notice. Mattie has 132,000 followers and more than 5.9 million likes on her TikTok.

* She has three posts there with more than 1 million views, including covers of Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” “It’s a Man’s World” and “Make You Feel My Love.”

* Singing barber Noah Peters auditioned for American Idol last year. Mattie landed in his barber’s chair. And sang “Lose Control.” Wow! Writes Noah: “At 15 years old. She’s going to be a power house!!! @teddyswims do you hear this?” Check it out below.

* Mattie delivered her first live show at a venue called Grindstone Cowboy in Eagleville, Tenn., in June 2023. She was 14 at the time and raising money to attend a summer music camp.

* Singer-songwriter Jessie Murph appears to be an inspiration for young Mattie. She covers a number of Jessie’s songs on Instagram, including “Drunk in a Bathtub,” “Someone in This Room” and “I Could Go Bad.”

* And while she’s clearly mostly a cover singer at this point, Mattie’s working on her songwriting, posting a snippet of an original here.
