Lexi Tieffel of American Idol Season 23

Lexi Tieffel is among the artists who auditioned for Season 23 of American Idol.

Idol kicked off Season 23 March 9 with Carrie Underwood joining Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie at the judges’ table.

Sunday will mark the last audition episode before Hollywood Week begins.

Here’s more about Lexi.

* She’s a 16-year-old singer-songwriter from Mahomet, Ill., and a junior at Mahomet-Seymour High School. She’ll turn 17 in April.

* Her only release to date is a cover of Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” dropped to streaming sites in October.

* Her hometown hosts a two-day music festival in late August each year. For the past two years, Lexi has been called on to open each night with the national anthem.

* This year, she also performed a 30-minute set on the main stage, covering artists ranging from Lainey Wilson to Bon Jovi to Amy Winehouse.

* “Overall, my musical life has gotten progressively busier each year,” she told the local News-Gazette in a preview to this year’s festivities.

* Lexi has also performed the anthem at a number of University of Illinois sporting events.

* And Lexi’s been singing for quite a while. There are videos on YouTube of her performing on a TV show called CI Living in 2019, when she was in sixth grade.

* Lexi is also part of the worship team at First Christian Church, and several of the videos on her own YouTube channel — called Loudmouth Lexi — feature her singing there.
