Will Carter of American Idol Season 23

Idol kicked off Season 23 on March 9 with Carrie Underwood joining Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan at the judges’ table.

A final audition episode will air Sunday at ABC. Then golden ticket recipients will begin competing in Hollywood Week, witht he first episode in that phase of the competition set to air Monday.

Here’s more about Will:

* He’s a 24-year-old country-leaning singer-songwriter from St. John’s in Newfondland, Canada.

* According to The Telegram, he’ll become the firt Newfoundlander and first Atlantic Canadian to appear as a contestant on the show.

* That said, four Canadians could be featured on Idol Sunday night. The others are Olivier Bergeron, Sarah Day and Cal Buckley.

* Will is also preparing to release his debut single — a song called “Dreams” — this weekend. You can check out a snippet below.

* While he hasn’t released music, you can check out other Will originals — like “Chasin’ Highs” and “Line Without a Lure” — on his Instagram.

* Judging from Facebook posts from his uncle Glen Carter, Will lost his mom Tina in 2018. American Idol was her favorite TV show.

* Glen writes that Will has been “strumming guitar and singing since he was a toddler” and began taking guitar lessons when he was just 8.

* He entered a singing competition in Newfoundland at age 16 and has been playing local gigs ever since.

* Glen says he was selected to sings in front of the judges after three zoom auditions. During the last, he performed Morgan Wallen’s “Cover Me Up,” Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over” and his own “Dreams” for producers.

* Pre-Idol, Will already has nearly 1,000 followers on his TikTok.
