Turns out going head to head with the NBA playoffs on Monday night is more challenging than going head-to-head with The Voice.

Which sorta figures, since The Voice is a singing show in steep decline and just completed its worst season ever.

Anyway, the NBA playoffs aired on NBC Monday night and bumped Idol from the top spot in that night’s ratings.

In fact, Idol’s share of 18-49 year-old TV viewers dropped from 0.45 to 0.37.

But its total audience held steady at about 5.07 million. The week before, Idol had an estimated audience of 5.08 million.

Last year, Idol’s Top 8 show aired on a Monday night and attracted 4.29 million viewers.

This year’s audience for the Top 9 show was 18 percent higher than that number.

Idol had been Monday night’s top-rated show for the past several weeks and pummeled The Voice in each of the eight weeks that the shows aired head to head on Monday night.
