Kayleigh Mathews from The Voice Season 30

Her audition: Kayleigh Mathews from The Voice Season 30

Kayleigh Mathews, 31, Tucson, Ariz., “When I Call Your Name” by Vince Gill: Kayleigh’s lovely country tone enticed an early chair turn from Adam Levine. But that lovely tone really shined once she hit the chorus and prompted a cascade of turning from the other three coaches. Kayleigh’s voice is rich and loaded with emotion. Adam called Kayleigh a “magnificent” talent and loved the way she filled the room with her voice. Latifah called her Queen Kayleigh and said her performance became a spirital moment. Riley said he loved every minute of her performance. Kelly says Kayleigh has the musical baby of several female singers she admires. He also reminded Kayleigh that she released a duet with Vince Gill.

Here’s more about Kayleigh:

* She’s a country artist from Arizona, now based in Nashville, with lots of music already released.

* In her Spotify bio, she describes her music as traditional country “with a hint of dusty blues.”

* She released her first song in 2020 and has since followed up with a pair of EPs — “Desert Child” in 2021 and “Turn Out the Lights” in 2022 — and several singles.

* In an online bio, Kayleigh says she started singing back in Tucson around age 3 and wrote her first song when the was 15, inspired by classic country story-tellers like Ernest Tubb, Bill Monroe and Patsy Cline.

* She made the move to Nashville in 2018, without a plan. And she told Canvas Rebel she initially thought she’d “made a huge mistake” because she had trouble landing a job. Then she found one right up her alley — tour guide at the Grand Ole Opry.

* Until the pandemic shut everything down. Kayleigh told KUstars.com that turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

* “Who knew that was exactly what I needed right at that very moment. I FINALLY, somehow, came out of a long writers block, began writing songs from the heart about my hometown and life experiences, found an incredible producer and started recording. It finally felt like I was on the path that feeds my soul!”

* She’s since toured the country performing as a full-time musician, says she discovered her self-confidence and says she’s written “more songs than I ever thought I could.”

* Her most recent is a song called “Hard Road” that landed in late August. Writes Kayleigh on social media: “I’ve learned that the hard road isn’t always the wrong road. Sometimes it’s the one that teaches you who you are. This song carries a piece of my heart, and I hope somewhere in these words, you find a piece of yours.” Check out a snippet of the song below.
