An impassioned performance of Carrie Underwood’s “I Know You Won’t” and a pledge to the judges that “you won’t regret it” earned Jeremy Rosado a wild card berth on American Idol just a week ago.
But fans weren’t convinced.
And when Jeremy found himself standing alongside Elise Testone at the end of Thursday’s episode, even the support of Idol judge Jennifer Lopez couldn’t save him.
This time, Elise got the save and Jeremy got the bad news: His run in the Idol finals was over, after just one week.
In fact, it was left to Jennifer — brought to the brink of tears by Jeremy’s wild card performance — to deliver the news.
Jeremy, 19, of Valrica, Fla., talked to the media about his time on Idol Friday afternoon.
* “It was crazy. It was amazing,” Jeremy said of Jennifer’s support. “I will forever be grateful for her for fighting for me.” But he thanked all the other members of the Idol team for their contributions to his experience as well.
* He said he cried “a lot,” prayed and called him parents after last night’s show. He said he’s still recovering from the disappointment of being eliminated.
* At the same time, he said he’s confident something positive will come from the Idol experience and he wouldn’t mind pursuing a career in acting, as well as music.
* “American Idol is the show I always wanted to audition for,” Jeremy said, in response to a question as to whether he would audition for “The Voice” or “The X Factor.” He also doubts they’d take him because of how far he made it on Idol.
* He said he thought his performance of “Ribbons in the Sky” Wednesday night was good enough to remain in the competition. At the same time, he had a feeling it wouldn’t work out well when he found himself standing center stage with Elise and is happy for her success.
* Says Jeremy: “Elise is amazing. “She really is fantastic. She deserves it. From the bottom of my heart, I’m so happy for her.”
* He’ll appear on “Live with Kelly” on Monday and “Today” on Tuesday and is hoping he doesn’t have to go back to his job at an infectious disease center, though he’s fond of his co-workers there.
