David Cook, Idols on the Music Chart

Taylor Swift’s 11 hits merely matched David Cook

That’ right, 11.

Billboard posted an article on its website later in the day saying the feat has actually been surpassed three times, all by the Beatles, who had 14 songs in the Hot 100 simultaneously at one point and 12 on two other occasions.

Prior to Taylor, who was second on the list of most Hot 100 singles at once?

None other than season seven American Idol David Cook, who had 11 the week after he earned the Idol crown.

Granted, the songs he had among the top 100 were mostly covers performed during his run on American Idol, but that’s still pretty darn impressive.

And thanks to ladymadonna512 on Twitter for tipping me off to this.

While we wait patiently … ok, perhaps impatiently … for the new David Cook album that’s due out sometime next year, the season seven champ has been busy helping out with good causes.

Earlier this week he was one of three former Idol contestants — Ruben Studdard and Melinda Doolittle being the others — to perform at a charity benefit for the Ronald McDonald House in New York.

Check out the video below of David performing an acoustic version of “Living on a Prayer” at that event. Wish the audio was better, but you can tell it was a heck of a vocal.

There’s also a thank you on his website for the David fans who helped him raise more than $152,000 for the 2010 Race for Hope in Washington, D.C., in the fight against brain tumors.

And last weekend, David was at the Chris Evert/Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic, which raised money to combat drug abuse and child neglect in Florida.

Nice work, David.

Now, “Living On a Prayer” …

I, too, have been waiting impatiently for David’s next CD. Didn’t he have 14 hits in the Top 200 Billboard? What would have happened if they had been available longer for sale than just a week? They were only for sale a couple of days after the end of Season 7. RCA is dragging on releasing his next CD. I can’t figure out why. I just hope they promote this album this time.
