The focus will be on the Top 3 Sunday night as fans select a Season 21 American Idol.

But plenty of guests will be on hand to keep the music flowing when Iam Tongi, Colin Stough or Megan Danielle aren’t on stage.

A highlight for longtime Idol fans will be a duet by Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken, the Season 2 finalists.

Their performance will come on the 20th anniversary of the Season 2 finale.

Also on hand will be former judge Keith Urban, who will mentor the Top 3 and perform on Sunday’s show.

Other guest performers will include Pitbull, TLC, Lainey Wilson, Lauren Daigle, James Blunt, Ellie Goulding, Jazmine Sullivan, Jellyroll, Kylie Minogue, and REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin.

The great thing about Idol is that, unlike the other singing show on NBC, they make the finale all about the season just completed.

Last year, for instance, nearly every guest artist performed a duet or group number with members of the Season 20 cast.

So if that happens again this year, we could see fan favorites besides the Top 3 performing Sunday night.

I’m hoping that’s the case. I mean, wouldn’t a duet featuring Pitbull and Nutsa be wild?

On Tuesday, Nutsa posted that she’s going to be happy to be back with her American Idol family on Sunday, adding “you’ll be shocked when you hear who my duet partner is.”

Lucy Love, Zachariah Smith and Haven Madison have posted hints about returning to the Idol stage as well. And Lucy’s Instagram post includes what looks like a photo from a rehearsal room. Oliver Steele, Marybeth Byrd, Warren Peay and We Ani are also on hand.
