I must confess. I’m really not sure what to expect from tonight’s American Idol results show.
Logic dictates that C.J. should go home.
I mean, his solo went very well Wednesday night. It might have been his best of the finals.
But his butt has landed in the stools of danger the past three weeks and his body of work … well, let’s just say it merits elimination more than any of the other Idols.
The next most likely to depart would be Sam Woolf.
He’s been in the bottom three times, is only around because the judges inexplicably saved him two weeks ago and was boring last night. I graded his performance as the night’s weakest.
But producers are very, very fond of Sam, and it’s showing.
They’ve got the young girls screaming and Sam’s latest effort in the iTunes Top 200, one of only three contestants to accomplish that feat this week.
Which brings us to Jess Meuse and Dexter Roberts, who are not teachers’ pets. In fact, the judges have seemed unusually harsh with Jess, in spite of the fact that she’s got one of the best and most distinct voices on the show.
Could they be in danger?
Well, if the voting mirrors iTunes results, their songs from Wednesday are doing the worst. To check out how all the Idols are doing on iTunes, head here.
About the only thing certain tonight: Jena Irene, Alex Preston and Caleb Johnson should be safe.
Heck, the way they’ve been performing, we could probably fast forward a couple of weeks, and they’d still be safe.
And the results begin …
Advancing:
Jena Irene — Of course, she advances. She was magical last night.
Alex Preston — Gotta say, I didn’t love his performance last night, but lots of people did.
Caleb Johnson: Hmm, I think those are the three I said will be around for a long, long time.
C.J. Harris: So, last night’s winning performance paid off for C.J.
Sam Woolf: Teacher’s pet advances on Idol.
In the bottom two:
Dexter Roberts — And he could be in big trouble. His song was the only one that didn’t chart on iTunes.
Jess Meuse: She lands in the bottom two, and doesn’t look very happy about it.
And the singer going home on American Idol is … Dexter Roberts.
And Jess Meuse survives to sing another day.
Come on, Jess, kick butt next week.
Meanwhile, Dexter goes down singing “Lucky Man.” Check back tomorrow. I’ll report on Dexter’s exit interview with the media.
