After The Voice

Raquel Castro is back with a new song and a role on TV’s hottest show

0
figures to be a pretty big month for a Season 1 contestant from The Voice.

Raquel Castro recently released a new pop single called “Young and Dumb.”

She’ll drop the accompanying video on Tuesday.

Perhaps more importantly in terms of exposure, she’s landed a recurring role on TV’s #1 show — “Empire.”

Raquel, now 20, will play an aspiring pop singer named Marisol. She’ll appear in her first episode this week (“Empire” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on FOX).

“She’s just developing right now,” Raquel said of her character in an interview with 92.3 radio. “I’m not sure where it’s going to go.

“She’s a Latina. She has a lot of spice in her. And she’s a singer, dancer, actress. And I’m very lucky because that’s what I want to be.”

And, yep, an appearance on a show like “Empire” could be a big boost to her career.

“It’s the number one show right now, so I’m truly, honestly blessed,” Raquel said.

This is hardly her first acting gig. In fact, she’s probably best known for a role she played as a child — that of Gertie Trinke, daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in the 2004 film “Jersey Girl.”

Raquel has had a number of less high-profile roles on TV and in movies since then.

Then, of course, there’s her appearance on the first season of The Voice back in 2011, when she was 16.

A member of Team Christina, she advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated.

She describes her new song as mainstream pop with a bit of Latin flavor and says she’s hoping to release an album in the not-to-distant future.
