Her high-energy performance and impressive vocals prompted chair turns from Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams. Blake praised her “wild, loose cannon” approach to performing. Angie decided to join Team Blake.

Her background: She was born in El Salvador and moved to Georgia when she was 11 years old. Her dad said there was a lot of unrest in El Salvador and he felt the U.S. would offer more opportunities for his five daughters. Angie credits her mom for introducing her to Dolly Parton. And Angie ssays country music taught her a love of songwriting. She decided she needed to pursue music “so one day, I got this idea that I’m going to be a singer on a cruise ship.” That’s what she’s been doing since, playing four sets a day, six days a week for thousands of people while traveling to tropical locations. Yet she’s hoping to reach a point where she can reach people through her music without a cruise line to do it.

What the show didn’t show:

  • Angie released a seven-track EP called “Live Acoustic Sessions” in 2014. Standout tracks include “Understand,” “Let it Ride” and a cover of “Skyfall.”
  • According to her bio on The Voice website, Angie didn’t start pursuing music until she was in college, at which time she found herself juggling singing, a job and her studies.
  • That prompted her to drop out of school about three years ago. And that’s when she started working for the Carnival Cruise Line.
  • She actually auditioned for The Voice about four years ago, but failed to make it past the first round of cuts. This time, she was invited to try out after a producer spotted a video of her performing on YouTube.
  • It’s not the first time her YouTube videos got her noticed. According to her Facebook bio, country star Kenny Chesney included her cover of his song “American Kids” in a national press release about the song.
  • In an interview you can read here, Angie credits her cruise ship career for building her confidence as a performer. “I was given the opportunity to focus on music every day,” she said. “I learned how to play any kind of cover song, but it’s going to sound like me singing it.”
  • In the same interview, she says she picked Blake as her coach because she didn’t “want a safe choice. He seemed like someone who would challenge me.”
  • On iTunes: Her Voice performance and that 2014 EP.
