The Voice returns to NBC Monday night for its 12th season with a whole new cast of 48 contestants.
And because the show hates suspense more than any competition show I’ve ever seen, it’s already released videos of two singers — J Chosen and Anatalia Villaranda — earning four-chair turns in their blind auditions.
We just don’t know who each chose for a coach.
J Chosen, 29, from Georgia, prompts a quick four-chair turn with a silky smooth delivery of sexual healing that leaves Alicia Keys smiling and comparing him to Marvin Gaye.
He already has two songs out that you can download, “Stay Strong” and “Dream,” which were featured on the “Carter High” soundtrack last year.Oh, and he released a single called “Gibberish” back in 2013 with lyrics so explicit I’d never dare post them in this blog.
To find that music, you’ll have to search for J Chozen. The special ed teacher was spelling his last name with a “z” at the time.
Singing show fans are likely to be more familiar with Anatalia, who needs a little more time than J Chosen to prompt all the coaches to turn for her Voice audition as she belts out “Runaway Baby.”
She might be familiar because the 17-year-old from Temecula, Ca., made it all the way to the final judgment on last spring’s final season of American Idol.
And Anatalia got lots of screen time thanks to group night drama — imagine that — during the Hollywood round. When she and her original group members couldn’t agree on a song choice, they abandoned Anatalia.
No problem. She joined Dalton Rappatoni and Kassy Levels for a version of Bruno Mars’ “Treasure” that drew praise from the Idol judges.
Oh, and remember, this is the season The Voice drops the audition age to 13.
Thanks to another suspense-spoiling clip aired on the Today show during an interview with Gwen Stefani, we know at least one 13-year-old makes it to the Top 48.
That would be Kid Quizz, aka Jacquez Swanigan, aka Quizz Shanigan. Yeah, he’s performed enough that he’s used multiple stage names at his young age.And if Carson Daly seems at all shocked by Kid’s vocal talent, feel free to throw something at your TV that hits him in the head so hard he’ll feel it all the way in L.A. Because it’ll be an act.
This is a youngster who competed on America’s Got Talent, appeared on the Maury Povich show and has done voice work for a Nick Jr. program.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he’d been “invited” to audition for The Voice.
In researching spoiler list singers, I stumbled upon two other very young singers who auditioned — Trinity Rose and Griffin Tucker.
Impressively, both have already released music to iTunes. On Twitter, Trinity bills herself as the youngest female contestant on Season 12.
The Voice hasn’t spoiled the suspense on whether or not they make the show. At least not yet.
Check back Monday. I’ll be live blogging as the auditions for Season 12 begin and following up with profile blogs providing more info on each of the Season 12 contestants.
